It may officially be Fall, but I am not ready to give up my breakfast smoothies just yet! This blueberry smoothie is my go-to breakfast of choice any time of year. It is packed with nutritious goodness and tastes like a frozen treat, thanks to its thick and creamy frosty texture and delectable blueberry banana flavor. I wake up every morning craving another sip and my kids love it too, so it’s a win, win for this mommy.
Let’s get real, if I can pack in a serving of greens for breakfast and not even taste it, then I am definitely here for it! Not to mention, it’s quick to prepare, refreshing and packed with healthy ingredients, vitamins and minerals. What’s not to love, right?
Best Blueberry Smoothie Ingredients
Breakfast doesn’t have to be difficult. We created this delicious blueberry smoothie to take the guesswork out of our busy mornings. It is not only refreshingly satisfying, but it is loaded with antioxidants, fiber, Omega 3s and plant-based protein, keeping your tummy full for hours.
Here are a few ingredients that make this smoothie so ridiculously healthy and delicious:
- Blueberries, obviously! This superfood packs a nutritious punch; however, use frozen blueberries, as they work best to give this smoothie that extra thick and frosty texture.
- Frozen banana – For a super creamy smoothie with a hint of natural sweetness.
- Spinach – For a deliciously healthy boost of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.
- Almond milk – Adding the perfect consistency and flavor. If you do not have almond milk on hand, any type of milk or water will work for this recipe.
- Almond butter – For creaminess, protein and healthy fats.
- Flax or hemp seeds – For an added boost of nutrition. These super seeds are optional, but absolutely worth the health benefits if you have them on hand.
- Vanilla protein powder – To add a boost of protein and depth of flavor, yet completely optional.
- Ice cubes – Don’t forget the ice for that added frosty texture!

Place all of the ingredients in a blender or food processor, and blend on high speed until creamy and smooth. If the consistency of your smoothie is too thick, add a splash of almond milk and blend for a few more seconds. If it is too thin, add a few chunks of frozen banana or blueberries and blend until your desired consistency is reached. Pour the smoothie into a serving glass and enjoy!

Simple Best Blueberry Smoothie Variations And Tips
- Frozen bananas – Slice peeled, spotted ripe bananas in half or in chunks and freeze for that extra creamy smoothie texture.
- Spinach – Not too excited about the taste or grittiness of spinach in a smoothie? Try patting dry and freezing your baby spinach after washing it for a smoother consistency. Kale is also a fantastic alternative to spinach and freezes perfectly as well.
- Almond milk – Substitute your favorite dairy or non-dairy milk if you are not a fan of almond milk. Water works great too!
- Super seeds – Seeds are optional, but worth the nutrition boost! Try hemp, chia or pumpkin seeds in place of flax seeds to take this smoothie to the next level.
- Vanilla protein powder – Protein powder is not a requirement, but feel free to toss in a scoop of vanilla if you have a favorite in your pantry!
