If you are anything like me, then you were a cookie dough junkie growing up and maybe you still are. If so, this recipe is definitely for you. Growing up in the 90s, or the last century as my children like to say as if their mother is so old, I could not wait for those hot weekend afternoons when my mom would treat us to the DQ in town. I always opted for the Cookie Dough Blizzard. There was just something about those little balls of dough speckled with chocolate chips that made every bite of my vanilla ice cream that much tastier.

These days, instead of running to the supermarket or a fast food restaurant for my childhood ice cream indulgence, I reach for my trusty food processor and a few pantry staples. Unlike many processed cookie dough treats found on the market today, our Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Hummus is guilt free, packs a serious nutritious punch, and the kids absolutely love it! This cookie dough hummus is a super creamy and delicious snack, packed with feel good nutrients, and sure to satisfy your sweet tooth. Here is what’s in this recipe.

  • Chickpeas – Opt for an unsalted can to keep your yummy hummus from tasting overly salty. 
  • Plant-based milk – We love almond milk for this recipe but any plant milk will work wonderfully in this recipe.
  • Peanut Butter – For creaminess and healthy fats.
  • Almond flour – Adds the perfect hint of sweetness, and a boost of protein, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. 
  • Pure Maple Syrup and dates – For natural sweetness. 
  • Cinnamon and vanilla extract – For a delicious depth of flavor to bring out that amazing cookie taste.
  • Vegan chocolate chipsOur go to chocolate chips are Enjoy Life dark chocolate morsels, but feel free to use your favorite.

Change It Up With These Simple Variations

We absolutely love this cookie dough hummus recipe as it is; but don’t hesitate to change it up and add your own spin to it.

  • You may opt to cook your own if canned chickpeas (garbanzo beans) are not your thing. Cook them until extra soft to produce smooth and creamy hummus.
  • Swap any creamy nut or seed butter in place of peanut butter. 
  • Substitute almond flour with 3 tablespoons of oat flour for a delicious nut free version.
  • Cover dates in hot water for 5 minutes to soften. This step will help blending the dates into a smooth consistency easier.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Hummus

This delicious cookie dough hummus is sure to make it into your weekly meal prep rotation too! It is simple to prepare, ready in minutes, and the perfect guilt free snack to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Ingredients
  • 1 (15 ounce) can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • ¼ cup plant-based milk
  • ¼ cup creamy peanut butter (any nut or seed butter will work)
  • ¼ cup almond flour (sub 3 tbsp oat flour for nut free)
  • 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 3 pitted dates (soaked in warm water for 5 mins to soften, drain)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ cup vegan chocolate chips
Directions
  • Step 1 Soak pitted dates in warm water to soften, set aside
  • Step 2 Add all ingredients to blender or food processor, minus chocolate chips, and blend until smooth and creamy, scraping sides as needed to incorporate.
  • Step 3 Transfer hummus to a medium bowl, add chocolate chips and mix until well combined.
  • Step 4 Serve immediately with sliced apples, your favorite graham crackers, or by the spoonful.
  • Step 5 Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 5 days (if it isn’t devoured by then!)
